ABOUT US

About Us

Pride in Our Past. Faith in Our Future.

In November 1916, The Hebrew Maternity Hospital, a forerunner of the Jewish General Hospital, opened in a house in the neighbourhood east of Mount Royal. In 1936, just two years after the opening of the Jewish General Hospital, more than 300 women formed the Women’s Auxiliary aiming at providing financial aid to the hospital as well as being a goodwill instrument and liaison between hospital and community.

Today, the Auxiliary remains true to its roots as a volunteer non-profit organization of the Jewish General Hospital, committed to fundraising and initiating programs, special endeavours and to enhancing the quality of care and effectiveness of hospital services.

The Auxiliary is still a vital part of the Hospital’s community 85+ years later and still holds many fundraising events and supports numerous initiatives. We work with many other community organizations to reach as wide a population as possible. Although many activities and events have changed, our mission remains to successfully achieve its mandate of supporting the hospital financially and creating a welcoming atmosphere in the hospital for patients, families, as well as our amazing team of dedicated, hard-working hospital staff.
